Along with running weekly brew classes, 3FE are running a farm-focused event for those that have done a brew class and want to delve a little deeper. Their Finca Argentina Event will also suit those who are quite advanced in their coffee journey and want to really geek out on the intricacies of one particular farm.
“In choosing a farm we wanted to choose one that our roaster, Steve of 3FE/Hasbean, has a great relationship with, in part because he’ll be coming to Dublin to run the event. Finca Argentina was an obvious choice for us as this is a farm that sells all of its production to Steve. Steve has been working closely with them and visiting them for 3 years now.” says Colin Harmon of 3FE, Irish Barista Champion and World Barista Finalist.
Finca Argentina is located, rather confusingly, in El Salvador. There are other farms called “Finca Argentina” dotted all across South and Central America, but this farm owned by Alejandro Martinez is one that deals exclusively with Hasbean Coffee. Steve came across this coffee when a backpacker sent him a sample of coffee that they had picked up on their travels. This happens quite a lot to Steve, and most of the time he roasts and cups the coffees out of politeness as they rarely yield anything too exciting. This coffee however was different, and not only did Steve contact and buy from the farm, he went on to visit the farm and begin a dialogue with Alejandro that has resulted in quite a remarkable crop.
This year 3FE are receiving nineteen different lots from the farm, comprised of 2 varieties, three processes and six subsections of the farm. This is a remarkable yield from one farm. The event will involve a photo and video presentation from Steve on his visits to the farm followed by a cupping of all 19 coffees. Participants will also get lunch and a bag of coffee to take away with them.
The Finca Argentina Event takes place at midday on 20th April at 3FE on Lower Grand Canal Street and tickets are available through the 3FE website.
