Making Space presents Making Sounds

Making Space in conjunction with Temple Bar and Dublin City Council presented Making::Sounds as part of Love The Lanes in August/September 2014. This activation, held every Saturday, aimed to empower individuals and create engagement using music and art. The pianos themselves were given a new lease of life with illustration by Dublin-based illustrators John Rooney Illustration and Steve McCarthy inspired by Temple Bar and the city of Dublin itself. Music is a great way to engage and encourage civic participation and MAKING SPACE enjoyed helping people to connect through music. Located on Crampton Court, Copper Alley and Cows Lane, Making::Sounds featured a number curated musical performances and the pianos were available for any member of the public to play and engage with. This project provided access to pianos and gave musicians or want-to-be musicians, the opportunity to share their creativity by performing in public. Over the six weeks it provoked the public, tourists and locals alike, to start engaging, activating and claiming ownership of their urban landscape.
